What is Dia De Los Muertos / Day of the Dead?
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) 2017 in United States of America began on Tuesday, October 31 and ends on Thursday, November 2.
“Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular, the Central and South regions, and by people of Mexican ancestry living in other places, especially the United States. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.” —wikipedia
Have you seen all the sugar skull makeup, candies, and cookies videos?
Dia De Los Muertos / Day of the Dead is a beautiful holiday becoming more and more familiar. This year I started to see decorations for sale in Target. However, my favorite has to be Elena of Avalor celebration. It really does a great job in a light a sweet way of explaining loss and remembering to children. The show does a great job of giving a primer of the holiday, Dia De Los Muertos, and the meaning behind the celebration.
I especially love the ending of the episode where Elena and her sister share their memories of their parents, talk about their grief, and being happy again through their memories. So touching… and so so special. Thank you, Disney!
I also love being able to travel the world through Instagram. Below are several photos on how the day is celebrated in Mexico and even in the USA.
Are you celebrating Dia De Los Muertos / Day of the Dead? If so, what is your tradition?
